Edison BBQ

Took the Mobile Tracing Unit and the kiosks to the Edison BBQ tonight.  It was a great opportunity for a lot of the students show their artwork to friends and family.

New Paint Job

Mischa and I painted the kiosks today to match the Mobile Tracing Unit. I don't think you can go wrong with stripes.

West Bank Music Festival

We finally got everything together, loaded up my scion, and set up shop at the West Bank Music Festival. Here's some photos from the event.

Thrilled that the kiosks were being used as chairs and shade.

Building the Kiosks

Throughout the workshop, the students expressed the need for the art to be shown in the communities where we did our research. This Saturday we will be exhibiting the prints at the West Bank Music Festival and the following Thursday, August 22 we will be at the annual Edison Open House and BBQ.

Showing art in non-gallery settings is usually pretty difficult. Where will the artwork be hung? How do you get people to come over and look at it? How can you get people to talk to you?

With these questions in mind, I designed kiosks that are portable, give the participant a place to sit, and can be arranged to encourage people to talk to one another.

I have been a big fan of the ROLU and took a bit of inspiration from their chairs.

Here's a couple sketches.

Here's what I came up with.

Crunch Time

Over the last week the students have been plugging away at drawings based on the walking tours, drawings that they have created along the way, and the images they collected from the History Center. Yesterday was the deadline for finalizing their drawings. They have created some wonderful images. I can't wait to see the drawings become screenprints.

Here's Emma working with printmaker extraordinaire Terez Iacovino, a grad student in printmaking at the U of M.  We are extremely lucky to have her working with us on the project. Check out Terez's work here - http://www.tereztheroof.com
